The Omega Speedmaster Super Racing

Omega Speedmaster Super Racing Steel Mens Watch 329.30.44.51.01.003

Originally crafted for the racetrack, the Speedmaster, Omega’s renowned space watch, also boasts a significant motor racing legacy. Tailored for use by scientists, engineers, athletes, and race car drivers alike, it was groundbreaking as the first watch to feature a tachymeter scale outside the dial, positioned on the bezel.

Over the years, the Speedmaster has evolved, with design elements and technological advancements that continue the enduring legacy of Omega in the world of racing timepieces.

In 2023, Omega unveiled a notable addition to its elite lineup of racing watches: the Omega Speedmaster Super Racing. This piece is both a homage to their Aqua Terra “Bumblebee” watch and an introduction to Omega’s new Spirate™ System. Visually striking and rich in horological significance, the Super Racing stands as a collectible milestone in Omega’s watchmaking history.

About the Omega Speedmaster Super Racing

Introduced in 2023, the Omega Speedmaster Super Racing represents a significant advancement in the Speedmaster collection, pushing the limits of accuracy and precision.

Featuring the patent-pending Spirate™ System, this timepiece is also a visual homage to the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra >15,000 Gauss (nicknamed the Bumblebee) from 2013, the first watch to achieve the said level of magnetic resistance.

The first watch to use Omega’s Spirate™ System

The Omega Speedmaster Super Racing features the Spirate™ System that marks a groundbreaking advancement in watchmaking. This system is engineered to significantly enhance the precision and stability of mechanical watches.

At the heart of the Spirate™ System is an advanced silicon hairspring attached to a flexible blade. This blade extends into a long “tail” that connects to the balance bridge. The attachment point can be finely adjusted using a snail cam, allowing for ultra-precise rate adjustments. This unique mechanism not only increases the accuracy of the watch but also enables a broader range of regulation.

According to Omega, this achieves an incredible precision of 0/+2 seconds per day on average — an improvement on their already remarkable 0/+5 seconds per day standard, certified by METAS.

The Omega Speedmaster Super Racing is powered by the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9920, benefiting from the enhanced precision offered by the Spirate™ System.

A Tribute to the “Bumblebee”

Visually, the new Super Racing draws inspiration from Omega’s 2013 anti-magnetic masterpiece, the Seamaster Aqua Terra >15,000 Gauss, particularly with its striking yellow accents.

The Super Racing’s hour and minute hands, as well as its arrowhead indices, are filled with an exclusive Super-LumiNova lume that gives off a bright yellow glow. The tachymeter scale on the black ceramic bezel ring is marked in yellow oven-fired enamel.

Additionally, a reference to the 2013 Aqua Terra is evident in the small seconds hand, which features bee-like yellow and black stripes. The date display also includes a special numeral “10” as a tribute to a decade of advancements in anti-magnetism and precision.

Dial Design

The Super Racing’s dial features a laser-etched honeycomb pattern, paying homage to Omega’s 2016 Aqua Terra prototype, which astonishingly resisted magnetic fields up to 160,000 Gauss.

The watch’s case adheres to the classic 44.25mm stainless steel Speedmaster design, complete with twisted, lyre-shaped lugs and a water resistance of up to 50 meters.

Bracelet Options

The Omega Speedmaster Super Racing is equipped with the same rolled-link bracelet as the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch 3861. This stainless steel bracelet features a mixed finish, with the two narrower intermediary links mirror polished and the three broader links satin brushed.

As expected, each link is secured by screws rather than pins and collars. Additionally, the bracelet can be finely adjusted thanks to Omega’s newly introduced micro-adjustment clasp. The watch is presented in a special box that includes a black and yellow striped NATO strap made of recycled nylon.
