The Cartier Tank Solo presents a contemporary and budget-friendly reinterpretation of the iconic Tank timepiece. Launched in 2004, it was Cartier's endeavor to bring a fresh perspective to their timeless models.
The Tank Solo embraced simplicity by forgoing elaborate embellishments and emphasizing the quintessential Tank feature - its rectangular case. Departing from the original Tank's curved brancards, the Tank Solo adopted flat brancards for a more relaxed aesthetic. While previous Tank variations like the Tank Francaise and Tank Americaine experimented with case shapes, the Tank Solo showcased Cartier's iconic elements at the forefront: a white dial adorned with Roman numerals, blue sword hands, and a distinctive octagonal blue cabochon.
Crafted from stainless steel and synthetic cabochon, paired with a quartz movement, the Tank Solo emerged as the most cost-effective Tank watch in its era. Over time, the collection expanded to include 18k yellow gold and rose gold editions, along with an XL-sized automatic variant.
Boasting adaptable design, the Cartier Tank Solo appeals to beginners looking to kickstart their Cartier watch collection or individuals seeking the classic Cartier elegance at an approachable price point.

The Cartier Tank Solo is a modernized iteration of the original Cartier Tank Louis watch. Introduced in 2004, it presents flat brancards as opposed to the circular ones found on the original Tank. It was considered an entry-level Cartier watch, and the most affordable Cartier Tank available.
Cartier Tank Solo models, like most of Cartier’s dress watches, are water resistant to 30 meters or 100 feet. With this level of water resistance, they can be worn daily and still have enough protection from splashes (such as handwashing) but they should not have long-term exposure to water, or be worn during water sports or swimming.
As of 2022, the Cartier Tank Solo still appears on the Cartier website but is reportedly being phased out in favor of the Cartier Tank Must. Models of the Cartier Tank Solo, for both quartz and automatic editions, are available in the secondary market.
